Man Made
Lexan
Lexan is a very hard material made of polycarbonate, usually clear in nature and very unforgiving. You can also get it in a gray or bronze color on occasion. The material is usually shaped into paddles or canes. It can also be used as a stiffener.
Some Lexan paddles made by Hansen Paddlewerks are: the pocket paddle, law paddle, fraternity paddle, and the ruler paddle. These paddles are easily cleaned and virtually unbreakable. They are however very stiff and hard and should be used by experienced players with restraint.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane can be very rigid to very floppy like a rubber. It feels similar to rubber but doesn’t grab like rubber does, so there is less chance of abrading or ripping the flesh. It gives an intense sting/burn like a cane . I make some that have the nickname of ” the meanie”. I make them short with no handle, short ruler, long ruler and prison strap size. The polyurethane I use is a more pliable version rather than the more rigid versions. This should also be used by an experienced player.

Rubber
Rubber is a material that can be made into straps and paddles. It can be very stiff or more pliable just as polyeurethene. It is always has some give to it, unlike lexan or some types of polyeurethene. Hansen Paddlewerks makes many of their implements in rubber as well as wood and leather. Some that they make are the Rubber paddle, Texas Prison strap, Rubber Sticks, Short rubber Tawse. These should only be used by experienced players. They may bruise and abraid flesh.
